Local Villagers Drive Community Tourism in Merapoh

Merapoh, Pahang – Beyond its caves and forests, Merapoh is making a name for itself through community-based tourism initiatives. Villagers have started offering homestays, traditional cooking classes, and guided eco-tours, giving visitors a chance to experience local culture while supporting rural livelihoods.

Tourists can now spend a night in traditional wooden houses, join cooking sessions featuring Pahang’s local delicacies, or learn handicrafts passed down through generations.

Community leaders say the initiative has helped reduce urban migration and provided villagers with new income streams. “We want to preserve our traditions while welcoming the world to Merapoh,” said one homestay operator.
