Merapoh Ultra-Marathon Draws Global Adventure Runners

Merapoh, Pahang – The quiet town of Merapoh came alive this weekend as hundreds of runners from across the globe gathered for the annual Merapoh Forest Trail Ultra-Marathon. The endurance race, which winds through limestone caves, dense rainforest, and rivers, has become a highlight on Malaysia’s eco-sports calendar.

Organizers say the event not only tests stamina but also raises awareness about the importance of conserving Merapoh’s fragile ecosystem. Proceeds from the race go towards community-led conservation projects, including cave protection and wildlife monitoring.

One participant from Australia described the race as “a once-in-a-lifetime experience – running through caves with headlamps and emerging into lush rainforest is something you can’t find anywhere else.”
